The thirteenth annual running of the UCI Class 1 stage race will from this year bear the name SAZKA Tour. The race runs through four regions and takes place from the 5th to 8th of August 2021. This year the organisers again promise an exceptional sports experience along with a very attractive accompanying programme linked to the new titular partner - Sazka.
This year the SAZKA Tour route will be 671.5 km long with an elevation gain of 9925 m, and runs through the Olomouc, Moravian-Silesian, Pardubice and Zlín regions. The race comprises four stages. The first stage is 150.8 km long, and starts on Thursday in Prostějov and ends in Uničov. On Friday it travels 203.4 km from Olomouc to Pustevny. The third stage on Saturday is from Moravská Třebová to Dlouhé stráně is 143.2 km, and the final stage starts in Šumperk and finishes in Šternberk after travelling 174.1 km. Its profile makes it one of those very demanding races in which only the very best prepared riders have a chance of winning.

“I am happy and it gives me great pleasure that SAZKA will become the new major partner of the race and we believe that with our joint efforts we can achieve higher objectives. In this context I mean right up to the category WorldTour,” said Jaroslav Vašíček, founder of the race, outlining the bold plans.
As last year, the Race Director will be Leopold König, a renowned figure in Czech and world cycling. A former elite Czech cyclist whose greatest achievements include seventh place in the overall ranking at the Tour de France 2013, and sixth place in the Giro d´Italia. “We are entering a new era and new experiences in life. We very much look forward to this work, and I am aware that we have a unique opportunity to make the SAZKA Tour one of the most prestigious cycling events in the world," added Leopold König, who himself won the Czech Tour twice, in 2010 and 2013.
Robert Kolář, member of the Supervisory Board of Sazka, was appointed vice-chairman of the Organising Committee, and race founder, Jaroslav Vašíček, moves to the position of technical and safety director.
“For 65 years Sazka has been seen as a key partner for Czech sport. We are happy that along with being a general partner of the Czech Olympic Committee we can also add sponsorship of the largest cycling race on the Czech roads. I firmly believe that together with the organisers, we will take this renowned race to a higher level,” added Robert Kolář, member of the Sazka supervisory board.
A surprise awaits the inhabitants of the Olomouc Region during the announcement of the results of the first stage in Uničov. “I am happy that we can provide the children of the Šance children’s home in Olomouc with seven BMX bikes together with helmets. Such gesture has already proved its value to us at the U23 Peace Race in Jeseník this year, so we decided to repeat it and support another children's home. There is never enough support for children with respect to sport and exercise,“ says Václav Friedmann, Director of Corporate Communication at Sazka.
A maximum of twenty teams of seven will compete on the SAZKA Tour, which will be selected by the race management according to the UCI ranking and current form. In total therefore, around 140 riders will be on the starting list – selected elite international and Czech professional cyclists from WorldTour, ProTeam and Continental teams. WorldTour teams Intermarché - Wanty - Gobert Matériaux and Team BikeExchange (last year's winners (then Mitchelton – Scott)) will certainly make their presence felt.
As in 2020, the official provider of transport for the SAZKA Tour will be Best of British Cars - Jaguar Land Rover Ostrava. Great thanks belong to Sazka a.s., the state institutions that contributed financially to the running of the event, the National Sports Agency, Czech Tourism, the Olomouc Region, the Moravian-Silesian Region, and the towns of Uničov, Štemberk, Šumperk, Moravská Třebová, and all our partners, in particular the companies Emco and Satum.
