SAZKA Tour 2023 will welcome international cycling stars at the end of July

Jan 3, 2023

The world's elite cyclists will race again in the Czech Republic over the summer holidays! SAZKA Tour, the largest domestic stage race since 2009, will be held from 27 to 30 July. The starting line-up regularly includes top domestic riders, as well cyclists from the World Tour, the highest category of road cycling.

“The quality of the SAZKA Tour is continuing to rise. We want to maintain this upward trend, and attract even more World Tour teams and bigger stars,” says Leopold König, Race Director and former cyclist who won the SAZKA Tour in 2010 and 2013.

The winner in 2022 was the Italian Lorenzo Rota of Intermaché Wanty Gobert Matériaux. After a thrilling battle, he secured his triumph at the finish line of the fourth and final stage! This Belgian team, among the World Tour elite, also included Domenico Pozzovivo of Italy, who finished eighth on the Italian Giro 2022, Rein Taaramäe of Estonia, who can boast stage victories on the Giro and Vuelta, and above all the local star Jan Hirt. The sixth-placed man in the final standings of the Giro di Italia 2022 did an honest job supporting his teammate, contributing significantly to his overall victory.

The Belgian Intermaché team was not the only World Tour team that competed on the roads of the Zlín, South Moravian, Olomouc and Moravian-Silesian regions, through which the SAZKA Tour passed. The Bora-hansgrohe and BikeExchange-Jayco teams were also represented in the peloton.

The star-studded cast of the 2022 event was boosted by the participation of defending champion, Italian Filippo Zana, who was competing in one of his last races for the Italian pro-continental team, Bardiani, as he has been wearing the Jayco team jersey since January.

The SAZKA Tour 2022 caravan visited iconic places such as Dlouhé Stráně and Pustevny, while the competitors climbed over ten thousand metres in total.

The stage details and starting list for the SAZKA Tour 2023 will be published closer to the event, which has been in the UCI 2.1 category since 2015 and will take place from 27 to 30 July this year.
